Littlehampton
is a seaside resort and port on the mouth of the River Arun in West Sussex.
Following a decline in port trade, a number of the riverside wharves
were re-developed for residential, commercial and leisure use. Arun Wharf
and adjacent riverside sites were allocated for three and four storey
houses and flats with a steel framed tower as a landmark feature. Before
work could begin, Posford Haskoning. undertook negotiations with the
relevant authorities in relation to flood risk mitigation and tide-locked
drainage. Riverside quay walls were then rebuilt, storm drainage installed
and buildings and roads constructed, all to designs by Posford Haskoning.
Within the premises of the (future) Coega Port, a comprehensive study
was carried out into the technical and financial feasibility of a new
60 hectares private container terminal and a 200 hectares logistics
park. In the first phase of the assignment, design verification was
conducted for the Port Master Plan and various development alternatives
were generated. In the second phase, extensive transport and market
studies were conducted. Preliminary designs were made for both the
container terminal and logistic park, port master plans were reviewed
and adapted, environmental consequences were assessed and a full-fledged
financial feasibility analysis was carried out for both elements
of the project (container terminal and logistics park).
